BULLRUN 2014: New York City to Washington, DC

The true Bullrun experience began with the epic launch party at the Raven night club in New York City. The Bullrunners showed up in droves, along with New York’s party crowd, to kick off the 2014 adventure!

While at the party, we learned that a few of the teams were still without a car. Bobby Couvillion, who was supposed to be navigating in an Aston Martin DB9, was on the phone all night trying to ensure the arrival of his car before the launch in Times Square. Meanwhile, Team Texas was still without a car, but that’s pretty normal. Nicole, Christina and Danielle just roll that way!

Come Saturday morning, the Bullrun crew headed out to Times Square to get their cars into position for the start of the rally. Today we hopped in with Mike and Scott of Team Real Kosher, driving in their frozen black BMW M5 with a Dinan exhaust and a host of electronics. As the rally launch drew nearer, the drivers started to feel the energy flowing! Crowds of New Yorkers gathered to see the drivers off!

Among the drivers this year are: Ice-T, driving his Mercedes SL65R, Seth Rose and Tony King, driving a super-modified Audi S8 with more electronics than a high-tech aircraft, Team Superspeeders in their Ferrari 360 and a bunch of regulars and newcomers.

At 10:30am, the route cards were handed out and we were let lose on New York’s streets. The ‘Real Kosher’ crew followed a pair of Mercedes SL’s and a Lamborghini Gallardo into the Lincoln Tunnel, and through New York’s busy streets. Not soon after a pair of R34 GT-R’s caught us, along with newcomer, Jack, driving his blue BMW M3.

The first checkpoint was McGlades Restaraunt along the ocean in Cape May, New Jersey. The drive took teams about 2.5 hours. Naturally, the first team to arrive at the checkpoint was Team Big Easy Bandits. Immediately behind were the Ben’s, driving a decked-out Porsche Cayman S, and the crew from New Orleans in their Aston Martin DB9 and Chevrolet Camaro. Not soon after, Team Real Kosher rolled in, taking seventh. Not a bad placing at all!

After a tasty bite to eat, the route cards were handed out once again at 2:30pm. The word was that we were heading to a ferry crossing… wrong! It was back North, out of New Jersey, and then South again to the United States Capital City of Washington, DC!

For the second leg, I hopped in with Jack in his Borla-modified BMW M3. We picked up the pace and passed a few teams before getting stuck in some major traffic jams. Not knowing where the other teams were was the hardest part. Some teams took different routes, and Bullrun is all about Navigation. They could either be behind us on the same route, or ahead of us on a different route.

As Washington, DC came into our sights, we had to start planning exactly which streets we would be taking. In the end, we got stuck in even more traffic and lost what ground we had made up. Upon our arrival at the hotel, we learned that we were the fifth to arrive, and the usual suspects, The Big Easy Bandits, arrived way before us. It’s looking like they already have a strong game plan, and are gunning hard for the Navigator Award! Coming in second was Bobby and Dharmesh in the 007 Aston Martin DB9! It looks like New Orleans might be taking the podium home this year!

The Bullrunners are heading to the Ultra Bar club tonight for another wild party. What’s in store for tomorrow? Nobody knows yet. That’s the beauty of Bullrun!
