Eighteen years ago several of Bridgeville’s finest began discussing ways of promoting the town and the agriculture industry that is so prevalent in western Sussex County. After tossing ideas around, this clever group of people came up with …. a festival!!
It would be held in the small town of Bridgeville on the second weekend in October. Now, what theme would best represent Sussex County and in particular, Bridgeville? Apples and scrapple!!
Some of the best apples around are grown nearby and since agriculture is a leading industry in the area, it seemed like a good idea to showcase them. It’s hard to drive through Bridgeville during the summer and NOT notice the distinctive smell of scrapple being processed. RAPA Scrapple was incorporated in 1926 and has been producing those tasty blocks of scrapple ever since. So… the Apple Scrapple Festival was born.
The Festival still has many of those original founders working year round, organizing the entertainment, food court and vendors that flood into town on that weekend each year. These volunteers hold regular jobs and work to promote the festival in their spare time.
“Apple Scrapple” has grown from 2500 visitors in 1992 to over 25,000 now and was incorporated in 2002. It has become a major fundraiser for local community organizations and helps elevate awareness of the agricultural profession in lower Delaware.
Festivities begin at 4:00 pm on Friday evening with the carnival, food court and street dance. Things start up again on Saturday morning with an “all you can eat” scrapple breakfast from 7:00 to 11:00 am. The rest of the day is filled with carnival rides, kids’ games, scrapple chunkin’, scrapple carving, live entertainment, car show, tractor pull, trade show, two craft shows and any kind of food that you can imagine including apple fritters, scrapple sandwiches, oyster sandwiches, hamburgers and hotdogs, barbecue beef sandwiches, ice cream and much more. The Festival is handicapped accessible. There is something for all ages and all appetites at this exciting event, which begins at 4:00 pm on Friday afternoon and runs until the street dance is over on Saturday evening.
Be a part of all the excitement that IS the Apple Scrapple Festival!

Well, they dont eat apples and scrapple at the same time here. dont think that would be very good. it just so happens the scrapple plant (rapa scrapple) is located in Bridgeville DE and the apple orchards (smiths apple orchards) are located there too. so therefore it is called the apple - scrapple festival. It is a nice small town event and a great time of the year to have it.
By the way, I dont eat scrapple. Ive been in the scrapple plant and if you ever went there, you would not eat it either. But I do love me some apple pie......

This car has survived multiple trips on the Hot Rod Power tour and trips to Florida to the Daytona Turkey Run. All of which were prior to much of the major modifications listed below.
Under the stock configuration, this car obtained 27 MPG on several trips to Fla. hard to believe, but it was documented at the time, checked, and re-checked. I don't think that's going to happen again......
I would like to build another car with the stock configuration to obtain the same results sometime. But it will never be as much fun as this car is now.
Powered by a 30 over 455 (468) cubic inch Pontiac with Edelbrock 87 cc chamber heads, March serpentine belt set up, 1000 cfm carb on top of a Edelbrock intake, (all engine components are jet hot coated, or polished, with all nickel finish fittings & braided hoses for a clean look, factory style ram air exhaust manifolds, 3" exhaust with QuickTime electric exhaust cut outs, X pipe and Spintech mufflers, power glide trans with trans brake, 373 12 bolt rear, QA1 coil over adjustable shocks all around, 4 wheel aerospace disc brakes, 15" Weld Aluma Star wheels for racing with Mickey Thompson ET streets or drag slicks, plus 17" torque thrust IIs with BFGs for the street. Last year I had a roll bar with swing-out bars installed in the car. Also replaced the factory bench seat and column auto shift with factory bucket seats and a Pro Bandit shifter.
The work and modifications never end. There is always more to do.
Update: 10/27/2008 as of this date I have completed the installation of the Accel DFI fuel injection system.
On 10/26/08 the car ran its best time to date a 11.25 I believe there is a more ET yet to come. Looking for a 10.80 to 10.90 Going to continue to work on the tune up as needed to get into the high 10s.
New pics on the way.
