BULLRUN III: MISTER HAPPY & The BAJA (SCORE)!
Category: Automotive
Team VW is up to our necks rebuilding the perfect combination of Power VS Preformance. And we have decided on the motor.
1.97 litter Fuel injected Turbo! thats right I am putting in the same displacement motor but adding a couple of better parts in the rebuild.
I have to thank Tony or as you guys know him as TEAM DART for helping me to come to this conclusion. It wasn't an easy choice. I struggled with the whole issue of what to do. Air Cooled or WRX STI? Go Big or Smaller in it's displacement? I know the VW Boxer motors and that is what I can fix anywhere. That is an advantage that I just couldn't give up. If I am going to run this race then I should take my own advice and stick with what I know.
I am not going to get super exotic in the build but keep it strong. Here is the parts list that I will be using and what I excpect from it in HP
69 X 94 AS41Mag full flow case..
69mm Forged Chromoly Crankshaft
Forged Chromoly Uni-Tech Connecting Rods
Forged Chromoly Light Weight Flywheel
Manton Chromoly Push Rods. .035 wall thickness
94mm Mahle Piston/Cylinder Kit - Total Seal ring set
Engle Camshaft 298° duration x 3.89 lift at cam
1.25 Ratio Rocker Arms w/ swivel feet adjusters
Hardened Rocker Shafts
043 Heads 40 X 35.5 Stainless Steel Valves,
Single Hi-Rev Springs, Chromoly Retainers
Stage 1 Kennedy Pressure Plate w/200mm Daycon Disc
MSD2 Coil with Electronic Pertronix Points
31mm High volume Oil Pump
Degreed Crank Pulley
Chromoly 10mm Head Studs
94mm Teflon wrist pin buttons
Windage Tubes
8.5:1 Compression (might lower it some for turbo)
ARP Bolts and studs through out the motor.
Expected Dyno results - 198hp and 236tq 6200rpm's (27MPG)
I plan on having it back together and in the car by the end of January 2009. That way I can test and tune during the remaining winter months. By using this time to dyno the motor and work through any issues. Team VW should be ready for a spring casting call and get some good seat time before the (hoping) Bullrun III.
This isn't the only project that TeamVW & MISTER HAPPY are going to be up to during this down period. We have decided to run the BAJA 1000 this summer. We will be also building a Class 11 SCORE car. We think that these two project are going to keep us busy this off season. I will keep you informed on both of these adventures.
