About a month ago I had a good freind freind turn on me. Over the last 3 or 4 year I have done a lot of work for him. Because I was a freind I pretty much just did things. I built his 1970 Elcamino, I had around 140 hours and in exchange he gave me a rail a car. He was supposed to have had this car ready for baggin. But we both got busy and my rail car was never fully finnished. I wasn't worried. Just cause I knew neither of us had a lot of time and all that was left was the drive axles and the brakes. So no biggy.
The next vehicle I did for him was a 1965 GMC Short box. It was supposed to be ready for final prep and paint. So he fronted me the $1100 for the suburban I wanted. Seeing I would charge around $1500 for a prep into paint job it was a fair deal. Unfortunatly as I begun to work the prepping on this truck I found myself redoing the body work and alot of the metal work. I felt sorry for the guy. He had already paid another body guy $8500 for the body work. So out of the goodness of my heart I fixed it all and included a bunch of custom work. Because the hood on this unit was in terrible shape we were nto sure if we would replace. So a side from any deal we made I took on the hood just to see what I could do with it. Well I got the rest of the truck finnished and it looks great.
Later on he decided to buy an old Chevy 4X4 for his son and seeing that I had a huge surplus of parts for these things I donated a full box and doors, glass, fastners pretty much everything except for the cab and the fenders. On top of that I opened up the shop that I work at and spent 13 hours that day building adn even painting this truck. It just went flat black. It came in full of rust and under human pushing power and left with new parts, paint and driving. Soon he had come across a set of Chevy shortbox box sides which he had given me just cause. I trust me I need them.
One afternoon taking a break from my truck I decided to monkey around with the rail car. I had noticed that the coolant was leaking from the head and soon noticed the gasket was not installed propper. So I called my freind seeing he uilt the engine and I am not a motorcycle mechnic to talk to him about it. I guess I must have bruised his ego. A few days later and his hood almost done I get a message on phone. It was my freind telling me to have his hood ready for him to pick it up. He sounded kinda pissy. I tried to call him back but would never answer. So the next afternoon I got home from work just shortly after lunch and I as pulled in I had noticed my box sides were gone as well as the hood. So I called him and of course no answer. I left him a message and asked why he took the box sides. Shortly after he had called me back. He had said he gave me those box sides out of the goodness of his heart. He then started saying that I was the one who screwed up the buggy motor not him. I was mad and told those box sides are mine and that he couldn't just take them back. He asked if I was home and said he would be right over.
A few minutes later he pulled into my backyard and with no hello he grabbed me and threw me into the corner of my shed and held me there with his fist in the air. He started screaming at me saying that I was ripping him off. His wasn't done so he want the Suburban. A few minutes following another freind of mine pulls to the house, The insane crazed dude that was once my freind grabs a shovel out of my shed and then procedes to go after my other freind. Then soon comes back at me with shovel in hand. I stood my ground I told him hitting me won't solve anything as he attempted to make a swing my wife show up up and hen she starts yeling, well, she even scares me. At that point I pulled my cell out of my pocket and did the one thing I don't like doing. I called the police. As I was talking to the officer he was in the background yelling and screaming trying to find the keys to my suburban. He soon hoped in his own truck and start. I told the cop that he was getting ready to drive off and that the box sides were still in the back of his truck. Well to make a long story a little shorter the cop told me he got a more important call. Understandable. But when I called the cop shop an hour and a half later and was told the officer went of shift, get this, an hour and a half ago. Well it has been about a month and still nothing has been done.
The rteason i thought that I would share this, well, is simple. Those boxsides were for my truck that I am building to run in BUllrun and everyday I get closer and closer to having this beast done and then I see my ratty box sitting there and hoping that I will nevr have to, not even temporary, put that peice of junk on my truck.
