We got a 92 Taurus from my father inlaw a few years back. It never had anything more than routine maintenance done to it, never had a major problem, till I killed it with just short of 750,000 miles. It just quit running one day on the way to work. Great timing, it died about 3 days after our 95 GMC.

Wow I'm amazed at the mileage on some of these vehicles.

My car is 217K and counting.

If the car is maintained and things are taken care of before a problem develops, there's no real reason why it should die any time soon. Well apart from wear but you know what I mean.

1993 toyota camry DOHC 3VZFE v-6 (the lexus motor) they only put them in the camry one year. then they switched to the single over head crap.

the wife bought it with 67,000.in 1999 when we sold it. in 2006 it had 420,000. i told the guy to take it easy and 6 months later he blew the t-belt. when i tore it down to redo the heads. (colision heads) the cyclider walls still had cross hatches in there.

those things are tough.

I just sold my '96 Saturn SL a few months ago, had 205,000 miles on it and still had the factory clutch and timing chain. The guy bought it for $600, replaced the clutch and chain, and is still driving it.

Here's the three highest milage cars I've owned for more than 90 days.  I use to buy/sell through my brothers "buy here/pay here" car lot, but these are the ones I tagged/insured, etc...

`89 Civic LX threw the timing belt at 225,000 (was due to be changed at 235,000).  Kid put another d15 in it and I haven't seen it lately, but I was perplexed when I first saw it, it passed me (in my BMW) on the interstate.  A picture of my face would have been priceless, "WTF? Thats my old beater..."  I was doing the speed limit (on probation from a ticket) he was in a hurry to get somewhere...

`02 Mazda Protege5 currently has 222,000 on it.  It needs a lot of work though, and I've done a lot of work to it.  I'm going to try to get rid of it soon, I think it needs a set of piston rings, no thanks...

`03 BMW 330i ZHP just rolled 78,000 last week, about to go on a 1,200 mile trip Wednesday-Tuesday.

My Kia hairdresser SUV has 206000... But  Kia miles are like dogs years , you have to multiply by 5 or something ...

I hate to say it, but as soon as my 87 vette hit 100,000 miles, everything started to fail.  Almost like it had some kind of self destruction timer on it.  They don't install those at the factory, do they?

I currently own an 88 Mustang GT with 3,000 shy of 200,000 miles on its original engine with NO rebuild!!! It has gone thru 2 clutches though. Still runs and drives and hauls ass

Jonnyb , i feel the same as you , i had to change everything on the engine after the fan relay failed on me ,  the worst thing is all the electrical stuff... I spent so much to rebuilt this car , i will never sell it!

jonnyb i  think they set them in the vette's for somewhere around 120,000.

but they did put them in the NEON's set for 60,000.

VW has timer on the 16v motor of 170,000.

Used to have a 93 LeBaron that I routinely put 77k miles a year on (drove 135 miles each way to work everyday) -- it died just shy of 325k

Ex-father-in-law had an old 2-ton chevy rock hauling truck that had 1,675,000 (barely had any brakes, was the most nervous ride ever with 10 tons of rock in the back)

My 08 civic is 400 miles shy of 60k, and I work from home ;)

I presently have an 06 3500 chevy diesel van with an eqipment back on it weighing it to 7 tons total with equip.  I got it new and it now has 130,000 miles on it, not a problem with it yet.  Just tires and 1 brake job.  Boy do I drive too much!!
